MGA represents and is a strong voice for independent retailers at state government, federal government and ACCC levels. MGA's primary purpose is to influence a range of issues affecting the prosperity of member businesses.

    MGA is currently working on a range of federal issues and regulatory areas including:

    • Chain store market power and dominance - Harper Competition Policy Review
    • Competition Law Reform - Introduction of an "Effects Test" - S46
    • Inappropriate planning and development (Chain store Predatory Capacity)
    • Reduce Red Tape and cost burdens
    • Conduct national wage reviews
    • 4 year review of the General Retail Industry Award
    • Productivity Commission Inquiry - Workplace Relations
    • Monitor proposed amendments to employment law
    • Independent Packaged Liquor Licenses
    • Tobacco regulations

    Our current achievements include:

    • Eradicate Shopper Dockets
    • Repeal of Carbon Tax ($70 million)
    • We completed the Energy Efficiency Information Program
